Climate Marchers march on Democrat headquarters, vow to obstruct pro-fossil fuel candidates

Hours after blockading the headquarters of FERC, activists from the Great Climate March and their supporters marched on the national headquarters of the Democratic Party. Marchers warned that candidates who accept fossil fuel industry "donations" and support their positions would not only not get their votes but instead find activists "getting in their way." This is a direct threat to obstruct and oppose compaigns for President or other office by Hillary Clinton, Martin O' Malley, or anyone else who does the bidding of the fracking, tar sands, and mountaintop removal coal industries.

Banks and Investors Call for New Debt Relief Rules In Wake of Argentina Hedge Fund Case

The International Capital Market Association (ICMA), a group of banks and investors, will call Friday for reforms aimed at preventing repeats of the Argentina/NML Capital debt dispute. The ICMA's plan would reduce the ability of hold-out creditors to litigate and undermine debt restructuring, in part by using contract clauses to bind all bond-holders to debt restructuring that 75% of all holders agree on.

A FAQ on D.C. Voting Rights, Representation, and Statehood

During my 12 years living in the District, I have heard a lot of questions about, and uninformed arguments against, D.C. congressional representation and/or statehood. But I had never been able to find a single list of those questions or criticisms with reasonable answers. I did a bit of research and put together this Q & A. If you like it, please feel free to distribute it however you wish. (You need not put my name on it.) Thank you!

On the 16th of August, the mock LNG tanker "SS Dominion Titanic" paid a port call to the town of Solomons on the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County, MD. Gas export protesters blockade FERC, 24 arrests

Shortly before 8AM on the 14th of July, activists opposing fracking and LNG export out of Cove Point or anywhere else blockaded all doors into FERC's headquarters. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission or FERC is suspected of being ready to rubber-stamp permits for gas export facility construction at Cove Point in Calvert County, MD. Cops helped FERC employees and bureaucrats push through lines of protesters, appearing at one point to use a pain hold to force a protester to let go of another. The blockades remained in place until about 10AM, at which point 24 activists were arrested.

IMF Paper: Corporate Tax Avoidance Hurts Global Economy and Poor Countries

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) released a staff paper noting that corporate tax avoidance negatively impacts all economies, but hurts developing countries the most. The IMF's release comes as the G20, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and United Nations bodies seek vehicles to diminish corporate tax avoidance. "The developing world loses more in corporate tax avoidance than it receives in aid from developed countries," stated Eric LeCompte, Executive Director of the religious anti-poverty group, Jubilee USA Network.
