Mayor Bowser raiding homeless camps again

One of Mayor Bowser's signature programs has been "fighting homelessness" by sending police and trash collectors against tent cities erected by the homeless.Earlier this week, Bowser's forces again destroyed the homeless camp in Rock Creek Park near Whitehurst Freeway. Then, on the afternoon of the 16th of February, a trash truck and a few other vehicles were parked menacingly close to a homeless camp on the east end of town. Several residents were visible loading belongings into a U-haul truck, seeking to protect what they own from the Mayor and her goons. A sign was posted, warning of the coming attack.

The exact location of this camp will not be reported here unless a raid ensues, for fear of provoking an immediate raid. The earlier raid near Foggy Bottom was one of a string of assaults on homeless tent cities in that area by city sanitation officials working under the guns of the DC Police. Repeately Bowser's troops have destroyed the village, only to have it rise again as it surely will again.

Sending garbage collectors to remove the property of the homeless under the armed protection of police sounds like what we'd expect from Donald Trump, but it is DC's very own Mayor Bowser who is responsible. She has tried to build a reputation of standing for affordable housing, but that may just be the carrot in a carrot-and-stick strategy to remove the homeless from sight and mind by any means necessary. Very much like Trump. Probably the only thing Trump would do differently would be mass arresting the residents, then checking identities against ICE databases. Bowser herself is already responsible for one mass arrest anyway-at the Disrupt J20 protests against Trump's inauguration. Other than that, when it comes to supporting gentrification and upscale development, Bowser and Trump are two of a kind.
